President Obama’s “before and after” reaction to the Supreme Court ruling.
President Obama is a Hypocrite In 2008, he said: "I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage.“
On Wednesday, by contrast, he said: "I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.”
This just in: people aren’t allowed to change their minds about same-sex marriage.
I don’t know why people keep bringing stuff up like this like they’re so damn smart. Someone did the same thing for Hillary.
Rational(key word) human beings change their minds when presented with new information that speaks to them. I went to church a few times a week all throughout high school. In 2008, I was a sophomore. If you would have asked me what I thought about gay marriage back then, I would have said pretty much the same thing. “Marriage is between a man and a woman, that’s the way it’s always been and that’s the way it is in the Bible” blah blah you’ve heard the story a million times.
But then I started going to college, moved away from the heavy conservative influence, and met really cool people that just happened to be gay. They had been dating the same person for four or five years. Certainly longer than I’ve ever dated anyone. They seemed happy. They were affectionate, they talked to each other respectfully, and you could just tell they were really in sync with each other.
And eventually I realized that, wait hold up, healthy relationships between gay people function the same way as healthy relationships between straight people. So then why the hell shouldn’t they be able to get married to the person they love? It suddenly seemed incredibly unfair. And that’s when I made up my mind that marriage should be between two consenting adults who love each other, regardless of what sex they are. You should be able to marry the person you love if you are both adults. End of discussion.
Am I a hypocrite for saying something completely different now than seven years ago? No. I changed my mind. It’s a thing that people do.
